The time before menopause is usually referred to as peri-menopause or pre-menopause. Menopause starts when the ovaries have ceased functioning completely. If you're a woman in your 40's or early 50's, you're probably experiencing some degree of peri-menopausal symptoms. Having symptoms of peri-menopause usually means you're getting closer to the age of menopause.
While menopause is a normal change of life that all women experience, the symptoms can be extremely bothersome. These symptoms begin long before actual menopause, when the menstruation cycle completely ceases. This cessation can be natural or medically induced by surgery.
